I share my unique life experience as a Navy Dental HPSP (Health Professions Scholarship Program) recipient's wife on this website with those who are interested in, or are going through this program. You will find the research I have done (Budget Your First PCS PPM Move), the advantages I have taken (Tricare Covered My Baby Birth During HPSP!), and even the mistakes I have made that are related to the HPSP program until now serving in the NAVY. For a detailed view of the HPSP program itself and Medical HPSP, please visit My Army HPSP Experience.
My husband and I met in music college back in 2010. We got married after graduation in 2012. He then decided to turn his wheel from music to dentistry, since we quickly found out that musicians are not financially stable. Instead of taking out a loan for college dental school, he decided to give the HPSP scholarship a try. He applied one year prior to anticipated dental school start date (school start date ~Aug2016, started HPSP application process ~Aug2015), and was awarded the scholarship in December 2016 (1 semester into dental school). Meanwhile, I worked as a clerk with the county government since 2014. I love doing paperwork, managing finances, and figuring out rules. Hopefully, our experience will inspire those who are also excited about this journey. Now (2020), my husband is graduated and starting work as a Navy dentist.
If you are like me -- who likes to move, travel, explore new cities, house hunting/apartment shopping, meet new people, have a new routine, etc, your HPSP experience will be amazing. It does not only offer the financial stability and practice experience in the military, but also helps you to build up a skill set to face the challenges when dealing with constant changes.
